eye make-up 101

i need your help. DESPERATELY. i bought this new eye-liner that i really like except for one thing: by the end of the day, it has totally migrated all over the place and i look like i have these terrible undereye circles. not. cute.

i used to wear liquid liner, so this wasn't a problem. but i decided to try this new soft pencil. i love the color and how much easier it is to put on, but it just will not stay put. i don't put it on my lower eye, so that tells you how low it goes during the day.

i do not enjoy looking like a racoon or even worse, one of those girls who goes crazy with the eye makeup but doesn't really know how to apply it so can someone PLEASE give me some suggestions on how to fix this? pretty please? i'll be ever so grateful.

One tip I keep hearing at Sephora is to apply a primer prior to applying the liner. That still seems like throwing good money after bad so I haven't tried that yet, but, eh, that's the most 'professional' advice I've heard.

One tip that I actually use (and have relatively decent success with) is to apply the liner first and then whatever shadow I'm wearing over it. Seems to set it, a bit, maybe?

Good Luck!

primer helps a lot. i used to have the same problem and since i cant get used to using liquid liner - i had to find a solution. Urban Decay's primer potion is what I use! hope that helps :)

LANCOME EYE LINED WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE.

Yes. That needed all caps.

Seriously. I live and die by it. Stays on for 12+ hours. All other eyeliners smudge on me, but not my dear Lancome. Once I did a post on it even...when I can't remember.

DO you use a primer?

Mary Kay has an eye primer that will help with that. =.)

I've used both MK and Urban primers and neither have helped. What HAS helped for me is dusting powder on my undereye circles. I use a big puff and just puff it on, then brush away the excess with a big ol' brush. Try that if it's smudging under your eyes, and like others have mentioned, go over it with a matching shadow if it won't stay on your lids.

Try this. It will help all of your makeup stay on better. Put foundation all over your face - yes, even your eyes. Then powder. To get the extra help to have it stay on, dip your compact puff in the compact powder and gently rub under your eyes. Add the liner. Take matching shadow and layer over the liner. Then dip the compact puff again and go under the liner. Whisk away any loose powder. Don't worry if it feels a little dry - your skin will warm up and it won't look dry or cakey. I'm almost 50 and do this. People are always amazed at how well my eyes and lips stay on because I do this every day.
