Pecking Order

All this lovely spring weather has me once again fantasizing about the country life.  Some place with fresh air, sunshine, and green pastures as far as the eye can see.  All of this dreaming has me obsessed with one day having our own chicken coop.  Yes, I am turning into Old Mrs. MacDonald.  Not only would they provide us with yummy fresh eggs, but supposedly they make for charming pets with great personalities.

Country Living featured Heather and Jim Bullard's backyard chicken coop last year {you can buy the plans for her chic coop, Chez Poulet, here}, which sparked my initial interest.  And then it was all over when I rediscovered this October 2010 article on Martha's farm animals.  I must have hens.  Turns out I'm not the only one:  The New Yorker ran an article in 2009 on how backyard chickens are the new It pet and there are lots of online communities like My Pet Chicken and BackYard Chickens for enthusiastic chicken owners.

Now if I can just figure a way to get myself a sweet little farm and M's consent...

Did you read my post when I talked about my sister's chickens? They are not quite as cute as in these pictures :)
