On My Bookshelf

Sarah's Key just didn't do it for me.  I know a lot of people LOVED this book, but I just was not a fan.  I didn't dislike it, but I didn't like it.  I felt that it was entirely too predictable and not all that well-written.  But it did make the history nerd in me want to do more research on the Vel' d'Hiv roundup.

Have any of you read Unbroken? Or Divergent? If you read Divergent, are you planning on reading Insurgent?  I'd love to hear your thoughts.  We've got quite a few wedding road trips coming up and I'm hoping these three books will keep me occupied.

Any others you would recommend?  I'm not much on chick lit, but since we're facing a total of 31 hours in the car {not including traffic}, I'm willing to give anything a whirl!

Kind of agree on Sarah's Key, everyone I know loved it and I was like "ehhh". I recently read The Paris Wife and really liked it and enjoyed it very much. Also just got Bring up the Bodies, which I can't wait to start and tried getting through The Hunger Games and could not engage in it at all...just wasn't "my thing"...happy reading!

My father has been talking about Unbroken for MONTHS! He keeps telling me to read it. I am downloading it next.

Have you read The Kitchen House? One of my recent faves.

I'm heading to the beach soon and looking for some good reads too!

Don't judge, ok you will judge while reading the first book, but be thrilled you read them by the third. I just finished the 50 Shades Trilogy, and loved it. Well not at first- I was reading for book club and was like what is wrong with my book club people, but then I got into to it and I LOVED them! Warning, you may decide to skip the wedding because you won't want to put them down, they get you caught up in the story-like reading while you brush your teeth because you just want to see what happens next. If you have an ereader of sorts download! Not my typical read, but I loved the story, the characters, everything.

i agree with Sarah Beth -- the 50 Shades trilogy is NOTHING like i would normally read.
I turned 50 shades of red when i first started reading but then i got sucked into the characters. I'm so sad that the books ended! ha!

It was a book where every.spare.second. i had...i was reading. at the red light. during commercials. in car line...etc. :o)

Well, drat - I was one of those who went on about "Sarah's Key"; hoping you like "Unbroken" and the "Divergent" books as much as I did.

I just finished "The Fault in Our Stars", and that's the best fiction I've read in a long time. I tore through that in a day or so, but be warned, it's a tearjerker (but a hilarious, wise one too.)

Unbroken is quite possibly the best book I've ever read. It's not my normal genre of book, but it's amazing! I, too, just started 50 Shades. I'm nervous. I'm only like two chapters in so I haven't gotten to the embarrassing stuff yet, we'll see. I'm also reading Steve Jobs biography - fascinating. Great read, but super long.

I saw the movie of Sarah's Key and was glad I didn't read the book first (I think changed a few big details).

I forgot to bring books on this trip. I do have The Summer I Turned Pretty-it's sort of chic lit/young adult but perfect for the pool.
